Tax return — Skattemelding. Every year you check and, if needed, correct the tax return prepared by Skatteetaten, usually by 30 April. Any refund is paid after the tax settlement (Skatteoppgjør). Many people lose money by not claiming the deductions they are entitled to, such as travel to work or the costs of keeping two households.

Cancelled or delayed flight — Flykompensasjon. Norway applies the EU rules on air passenger rights (Regulation 261/2004). If your flight is cancelled or arrives at least 3 hours late, you may be entitled to compensation of EUR 250 to 600 depending on the distance — unless the cause was extraordinary circumstances.

Moving — Flytting. A change of address in Norway must be reported to the National Population Register (Folkeregisteret) within 8 days of moving. For international moves we also help with transport and paperwork.

Compensation — Erstatning. Personal injury in road accidents is covered by the motor liability insurance of the vehicle involved. Treatment injuries are reported free of charge to the Norwegian System of Patient Injury Compensation (Norsk pasientskadeerstatning, NPE). After an accident at work, report it to your employer and NAV as soon as possible. Time limits apply in all cases — the sooner you start, the better.

Electricity and broadband — Strøm og bredbånd. Electricity prices in Norway depend on the region and the type of contract (for example spot price or fixed price), and a grid fee (Nettleie) is added to the bill. Comparing electricity, internet and mobile offers can lower your household’s fixed costs.

When will I get my tax refund?
After Skatteetaten has completed your tax settlement (Skatteoppgjør). The first settlements are usually published in June, with more following in later months.

Can I claim compensation for a flight from a few years ago?
Often yes, but time limits apply and they depend on the country and circumstances. Send us your flight details and we will check whether a claim is still possible.
