Loans and financing in Norway — compare offers from several lenders

Finance solutions that help you achieve your goals.

Starting a new business venture, financing a property or covering short-term expenses often requires additional funding. Whether you need a simple loan or a more complex structure, we tailor financing to your needs. With our dedicated lending team in Oslo, we offer flexible options and transparent guidance from start to finish — in English, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, French or German.

Norwegian loan agreements, credit checks and repayment rules work differently from many other countries. We explain the terms in plain English and help you compare offers on the figure that really matters: the total cost of the loan.

Types of financing

Consumer loans — Forbrukslån. Unsecured loans for larger purchases or unexpected expenses. Norwegian rules limit the repayment term on unsecured consumer credit, and lenders check your existing unsecured debt in the national debt register (Gjeldsregisteret) before making an offer.

Refinancing — Refinansiering. If you have several expensive loans or credit card balances, combining them into one loan can lower your monthly payments and total cost. We compare whether refinancing actually pays off in your case.

Mortgages — Boliglån. Since 1 January 2025 the minimum deposit (Egenkapital) is, as a rule, 10% of the purchase price, and total debt should not exceed five times your annual income. A financing certificate (Finansieringsbevis) lets you bid on a property with confidence.

Car loans — Billån. Financing secured on the vehicle, usually at a lower rate than an unsecured loan. Terms depend on the car’s age, price and your deposit.

Bridging loans — Mellomfinansiering. Short-term financing when you buy a new home before the old one is sold, so you are not forced to accept the first bid.

Business loans — Bedriftslån. Financing for investments, working capital or growth. The lender assesses the company’s accounts, cash flow and collateral.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between nominal rate and effective rate?
The nominal rate (nominell rente) is the interest alone. The effective rate (effektiv rente, APR) also includes fees and costs, so it is the right figure for comparing offers.

Will applying affect my credit?
An initial soft check gives you an overview without committing you to anything. Each lender then carries out its own credit assessment before making a final offer.

Can I apply with a D-number?
Most Norwegian lenders require a personal number (fødselsnummer) and BankID. With a D-number the options are limited — contact us and we will check what is possible in your situation.

Does refinancing always save money?
Not always. It depends on the rates, fees and repayment term of your current loans compared with the new offer. We calculate the total cost so you can see the difference before you decide.

Note: Borrow responsibly. The total cost depends on the amount, term, collateral, credit history and the lender’s risk assessment. We always present terms clearly so you can compare like for like.
