Insurance in Norway — compare offers and get cover that fits your situation

Our offers provide the protection you need in critical moments.

Looking for insurance in Norway, or want to compare policies quickly and transparently? Our platform lets you compare the solutions available on the market and choose cover matched to your circumstances — whether you are a private individual, an expat or a business owner.

The Norwegian insurance market has its own rules and vocabulary, and policy documents are usually written in Norwegian. You will come across terms such as Egenandel, Bonus, Kasko and Naturskade. We explain what they mean in plain English and help you compare them on the basis of Norwegian insurers’ actual terms and conditions.

Personal and family cover

Car — Bilforsikring. Every registered vehicle in Norway must carry compulsory third-party liability insurance. Cover ranges from liability only (Ansvar), through partial cover (Delkasko), to fully comprehensive (Kasko). Your premium depends on, among other things, your no-claims Bonus, the excess (Egenandel) and your annual mileage.

Home — Husforsikring and Innbo. Husforsikring covers the building itself, while Innbo covers your belongings inside it. The scope of cover depends on the type of property and the option you choose — tenants usually need contents cover only.

Travel — Reiseforsikring. The European Health Insurance Card (Europeisk helsetrygdkort, issued by HELFO) gives access to certain public healthcare services in other EEA countries. Private travel insurance can add protection on top of that, for example for assistance, luggage and cancellation costs.

Health — Helseforsikring. Private health insurance can speed up access to specialists, diagnostics and selected treatments — useful when you would rather not wait in the public queue.

Life and accident — Livsforsikring and Ulykkesforsikring. This type of cover can protect you and your family in the event of death, the consequences of an accident or other events covered by the policy.

Boat and pets — Båtforsikring and Dyreforsikring. Cover and premium depend on, among other things, the type of boat, the value of the property, the type of animal and the option you choose.

Business cover

Running a business in Norway? We can help you choose insurance suited to your type of business. Depending on the company, you may need Yrkesskadeforsikring (occupational injury insurance, compulsory for employers), liability insurance, property and equipment cover, company vehicles, goods in transit or legal expenses cover.

Frequently asked questions

What is Egenandel?
It is the excess — the amount you pay yourself when you make a claim, as set out in your policy terms.

Can my no-claims bonus from abroad be recognised?
Some Norwegian insurers may take documented claims-free driving history from another country into account. It depends on the insurer and its conditions, so keep a written confirmation from your previous insurer.

Is Innbo compulsory when renting a flat?
There is no general legal requirement, but your tenancy agreement may require it. Check what your contract says.

Does OTP apply to a small company?
The obligation depends on meeting the statutory criteria. If you run a company in Norway, we can help you check whether the OTP rules apply to you.
